Diabetes
Diabetes is a condition in which the amount of glucose (sugar) within the body is too high, when this happens the body becomes unable to utilize and process it properly. In the ancient world sufferers of Diabetes Mellitus were identified by the sweet smell (and taste) of their urine. This is because the illness causes a build-up of excess glucose (sugar) it also increases the amount of sugar which is excreted from the body.
The glucose comes from the digestion of the food that we eat, primarily this is carbohydrates such as bread, rice, potatoes, cereals and fruit along with sugar and other sweet foods. These are digested by the liver in order for it to produce, store and release the glucose when the body needs it.
